Michael Harbaugh is the Operations Manager for the Manufacturing Extension Partnership of Mississippi (MEP.ms), an organization that works to assist Mississippi’s Manufacturers increase their ability to successfully compete in the global marketplace. MEP.ms works with partner organizations to provide expertise and services tailored to the most critical needs of the State’s manufacturers ranging from process improvements, organizational transformations, and worker training to business practices and applications of information technology. MEP.ms is a unique virtual organization and its partners include the Mississippi Manufacturers Association, several Mississippi Universities and Community Colleges, and private sector service providers.

Michael is a results-focused senior executive experienced in business organizational development, business transformations, quality and production systems, team building, personal and professional development, and pre-hire assessment center design and implementation. He has the proven ability to facilitate fundamental changes in people and processes in diverse environments resulting in superior business performance. With nearly three decades experience in production floor and administrative lean transformations, Michael is a strong leader and effective change facilitator, creating a results-oriented and customer-focused environment.

Michael is an accomplished professional with a proven ability to analyze complex business problems, develop creative solutions, and lead effective and sustainable change. He has extensive experience in highly competitive and fast-paced production environments where quality, speed, and on-time performance must be delivered at the lowest possible cost. His management philosophy is based on developing the innate potential that exists in every person. He believes that knowledge is not power, rather, applied knowledge is power… and that most individuals and organizations routinely tap into only a small fraction of the talent, skills, and resources they already have at their disposal. His efforts in this area of focus routinely yield Return On Investment (ROI) multipliers of two to six times in less than a year.

Previously, Michael was president of the Center for Continuous Improvement, a for-profit company he founded in 2000 to meet the need for results-based organizational development services. In less than five years he lead the company from a local client base to one that includes customers in markets world-wide, serviced by a network of more than 600 affiliate professionals. Prior to launching CCI he was Operations Manager of a large power transformer manufacturing operation where he lead double digit growth in revenue and net profits. Michael has lead operations and transformation efforts for United Technologies in both their aviation and automotive manufacturing units, including three years as a Tier 1 supplier for Chrysler, General Motors, and Toyota where he implemented the Toyota Production System. He was General Manager of Pratt & Whitney large engine operations for Aviall, the world’s largest independent turbine engine repair and overhaul facility, where he designed and successfully lead transformation efforts in an entrenched union environment. He also has extensive experience in new program launch management having been launch manager for the Rolls Royce Tay turbo fan engine. Michael also led the team that, for the first time in automotive history, completed a “black box” design of a major component in support of the Plymouth Prowler launch. Early in his professional career he worked in airline operations as Chief Inspector, Director of Engine Shops, and Director of Technical Training for a large regional carrier.

Michael is a graduate of Southwestern Illinois’ School of Aviation Technology and has published and presented papers at business and technical conferences across the United States for more than ten years. He has extensive training in organizational management and leadership, and is a certified facilitator and executive coach.

Michael is a single father. He and his teenage daughter, Kate, live in Byram and share mutual interests in music, ice skating, and cooking. He is active in business associations and community service organizations. Michael is an avid outdoorsman, enjoying golf, hunting, camping, hiking and motorcycling, logging more than twenty thousand miles a year. He is national president of the Bloodstained Motorcycle Ministry and serves as a national board member for Mission M25 ministries.
